Optimal loading of medium voltage cables

In this paper a new method to update in real time thethermal model of underground cable installations is introduced.The objectives are to optimize the usage of undergroundinstallations and manage the emergency situations in a moreefficient way by taking into account the thermal parameters ofthe surrounding environment at the operating point and/orthermal capacitances of different layers that are involved. Themethod uses the temperature along the cable route provided bythe fiber optics in a Distributed Temperature Sensing system,DTS, together with the load variation as a function of time.
