The Epidemiology of breast cancer in women referred to the Early Cancer Prevention and Diagnosis Center in Gerash city, southern Fars province

Introduction and Aims: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common malignancy among women worldwide and the first common cancer among Iranian women. This study aimed to investigate the epidemiology of BC in women referred to the Early Cancer Prevention and Diagnosis Center in Gerash city.Materials and Methods:: This was a cross-sectional study, data were obtained from medical records of ۱۵۳ patients referred to the mentioned center (۲۰۱۵-۲۰۱۹). and were analyzed by using Excel software.Results: Most cases occurred in women aged ۴۵-۵۴ years (۳۴.۶۴%), ۳۵-۴۴ years (۲۵.۴۹%) and ۵۵-۶۴ years (۲۰.۹۱%), respectively. ۶۲ patients were from the Gerash city, ۵۲ persons from the Larestan city, ۱۴ women from the Hormozgan province and ۹ women from the Lamerd city. ۹۴.۷۷% of cases were housewives and ۳۷.۹۰% had primary education. ۶۶.۶۶% of them had referred to the physician due to touch and feeling of the mass at high grades of BC. Date of menarche of ۷.۱۸% persons were under ۱۲ years, ۱۱۴ persons ۷۴.۵۰% between ۱۲-۱۵ years and ۱۳.۰۷% of them more than ۱۵ years. ۱۳.۷۲% of cases had no pregnancy and, ۱۳۱ females had full-term pregnancy that ۳۶.۶۰% of women had ۱-۳ childbirth and ۲۲.۲۲% had more than ۶ childbirth.۵۶ patients had a positive family history of cancer, including BC ۱۳.۷۲% , colon cancer ۶.۵۳% and cervical cancer ۵.۸۸% .Conclusion: According to research findings most of affected women are housewife with primary education, that reveal the necessity of educational and screening programs for primary and secondary prevention of breast cancer in this population
