چکیده مقاله:

Introduction and aims: fertility loss is often one of the most concerning for women with gynecologic malignancies. Ovarian function may not fully recover from the cytotoxic damage of chemotherapy and radiation used to treat various cancers. The aim of this article is to review current conservative fertility sparing options for patients undergoing surgical and medical management of cervical, endometrial, and ovarian cancers.Materials and Method: An integrative review of the literature on the topic of fertility preservation was conducted using the following databases: PubMed. Search terms included fertility preservation; gynecologic cancer; fertility-sparing cancer treatment; ovarian reserve; pregnancy after cancer. Limiters included articles published in English from ۲۰۰۶-۲۰۱۸.Results: Choice of a fertility preservation procedure depends on the patient’s desire for future fertility, prior fertility history, cancer diagnosis, planned treatment and her age. Age is the most important factor in the eventual success of fertility preservation treatment. The patient’s health status when she presents for counseling should be taken into consideration. Conclusion: Knowledge of current fertility-sparing options is imperative for nurses to ensure fertility preservation is introduced early, and often, into education for patients from diagnosis, through treatment, and in survivorship.
