DNA methylation and its role in the development of leukemia

Introduction and Aims: Epigenetic changes play an essential role in leukemia pathogenesis. DNA methylation is among the most common epigenetic changes in leukemia. In contrast to DNA mutations, which are passively inherited through DNA replication, Epimutations , example the hypermethylation and epigenetic silencing of tumor suppressor genes must be actively maintained because they are reversible . ActuallyTthe reversibility of epimutations by small-molecule inhibitors provides the basis for the use of such inhibitors in new cancer therapy strategies . In this study, we review the methylation of the genes in leukemia.Materials and Methods: Searching online on the google scholar and PubMed based on keywords Methylation and Leukemia for articles between ۲۰۱۰-۲۰۱۹ .Results: The methylation of the genes in various leukemias has been reported Which is the following:۱-The methylation E-cad,Cxxc۵,MT۳,EphB۱,GATA۱ and pu-۱ genes in AML.۲- The methylation SHp۱,HoxA۴, pu-۱ and ABL۱ genes in CML۳-The methylation GPX۳, Socs-۱ genes in MDS and p۱۵ NK۴b gene in CMML۴- The methylation BMP۴, CALCA ,CDKN۲A,CDKN۲B,H۱۹ and RARB genes in JMML.۵- The methylation PASSF۱A and P۵۷KIP۲ genes in ALL.۶- The methylation KLF۴ gene in ATL.۷- The methylation SPOCK ,MLL,APP, LINE, HAND۲, TFAP۲, ADCY۵, PRIMA۱, KLK۱۰,RSPO۱,BCL۱۱B,DLX۴,FAM۶۲C,LTBP۲,LHX۱,DLX۱,BNC۱,GALGT۲,SOX۱۱,NR۲F۲ and SALL۱ genes in CLL.Conclusion: DNA methylation is due to the ability to change the proper therapeutic goals for new therapies. Therefore, identifying these changes as new therapeutic goals is important for improving the health of patients
