چکیده مقاله:

The built environment is undergoing significant changes, so, various needs arise, such as temporary and flexible shelters for easy accessibility. Usually, structures are constructed and installed as permanent objects that reflect a fixed perspective of defined function, form, and performance. The most significant issue in this context has been the concept of flexibility, which has proposed alternative factors to conduct temporary shelters. This paper reviews the idea of flexibility through the utilization of design for manufacturing and assembly (DfMA). Also, one focus is on the digital design and fabrication applications and strategies through promoting the modularity concept. This paper employs a four-phase research design. The first step is to review the common DfMA steps and guidelines based on the literature review. Identifying the flexibility factors is the second step in assessing construction projects with a DfMA-driven design. The third step is recognizing the potential of digital innovation and digital fabrication in DfMA. The series of DfMA guidelines and utilization of digital design will serve as a case study in the final stage. This research examines procedures of assembly and manufacture for creating microscale retracted structures as part of a design process which consists of only two major components with simple details and is flexible to be a large scales structure. This structure will also be lightweight and robust.
