GIS-Based Smart Metering in Electric DistributionSystems

Iran is making significant efforts in thedevelopment of future smart grids. Smart metering is an essentialelement of the future smart grid development. AMIimplementation has started in Iran since ۲۰۱۰ and electric powerinfrastructure is using more and more ICT elements. AlsoIranian government financially supports customers to install PVin their homes and buys their surplus power. So we have activecustomers and we are going to approach smart grid in the nearfuture. Many features and applications of the new smart grid relyon the availability of detailed and accurate data about the powergrid. We need a system to manage and control this smart grid.We proposed a novel method to smart metering on theGeographical Information System (GIS) platform. It hassignificant advantages: we can see all components of grid on themap and we can obtain all data about it easily. Also we canmonitor passive and active customers and the amount of theirpower consumption and power production. We can use this datato management, operation and study on the network. A loadprediction study has done using this real data. We are going tosee real-time data implementing ICT technologies in the nearfuture.
