The increased rate of urbanization and industrialization, particularly in populated and developing countries are considered as two of the most significant reasons for pollutions through heavy metals. This along with agricultural activities caused by consumption of high levels of chemical fertilizers or pesticides have resulted in adverse effects on both the environment and human health. According to available statistics, rice is one of the most consumed foods existing in the food basket of people around the world. To maintain public health, therefore, the evaluation of parameters such as lead, cadmium and arsenic in rice samples is of paramount importance. Iran is also a country with high consumption of rice and has always needed to import it from other countries including India and Pakistan. In this condition, inspection companies play a prominent role in ensuring the quality of imported rice. International Goods Inspection Company (IGI) is one of the well-known inspection companies in Iran that operates in this case and thousand tons of rice are annually inspected by expert teams and enter the Iranian market. In this report, the amounts of heavy metals (Pb, Cd, As) in imported Indian rice samples with the major variety of Pusa۱۱۲۱ which have been inspected by IGI company in ۲۰۲۰ are presented. The estimated weekly intake of the mentioned elements and health risk were also evaluated and the results showed that all rice samples are accordance with international and national standards.
