Reducing Koelreuteria paniculata invasiveness towards greening the economy and economizing the greenery

Invasive alien species Koelreuteria paniculata Laxm., is highly abundant in temperate region’s greenery – street alleys, parks, cemeteries, school yards and similar. Being very adaptive this species enters into maturity early and produces extremely high amounts of seeds (˃ ۱۰۰ ۰۰۰ per canopy). Thus, the aim of this study was to examine the potential shift of intrinsic ecosystem disservice (high generative potential and invasiveness) to the ecosystem service (oil extraction and utilization). During the ۲۰۱۹ analysis of K. paniculata seeds showed that its oil can be used as novel green solution – bio-oil feedstock. With the total canopy volume of ۲۳۰ m۳ yielding of three specimens exhibited ۳۶.۷ kg, while oil percentage amounted ۲۱.۳ %. This potential green product that oil-rich species K. paniculata could deliver is a proof that nature is an inexhaustible pool of sustainable, acceptable, nature-based solutions that could ‘green the economy and economize the greenery’.
