The relationship between psychological vulnerability and personality traits with Nomophobia

One of the negative effects of communication technologies is the prevalence of a phenomenon called nomophobia. Nomophobia is an acronym for "fear of not having a cell phone." Due to this issue, the present study was conducted to determine the relationship between psychological vulnerability and personality traits with nomophobia. The research design is a descriptive correlation. Participants included adolescents aged ۱۲ to ۱۸ years living in ۱۵ districts of Isfahan. Using available sampling, ۲۵۰ adolescents aged ۱۲ to ۱۸ years (۱۱۲ girls and ۱۳۸ boys) were selected. Data were collected using the Yildirim and Correa (۲۰۱۵) Nomophobia Questionnaire, the Neo Personality Questionnaire (۱۹۸۶), and the Sinclair and Elston (۱۹۹۹) Psychological Vulnerability Questionnaire. Multiple regression analysis test was used to analyze the data. Data analysis showed that the dimensions of personality traits and psychological vulnerability in adolescents because the significance level was less than ۰.۰۵ can predict nomophobia in adolescents. According to research results, one of the disorders of the ۲۱st century is nomophobia, which can be caused by personality and psychological factors. Therefore, counseling and educational centers should seek to eliminate personality and psychological factors to reduce nomophobia in people, especially adolescents.
