Introduction: Hyssopus officinalis tends to appear in Mediterranean regions as well as central Asia and north-west India. Its culinary and medicinal values make it a well-known herb. Nowadays, we are faced with resistance of bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc to chemical and synthetic drugs and treatments due to the high consumption of these drugs. Therefore, a suitable practical alternative can be a solution. The purpose of this review was evaluation the effects of Hyssopus officinalis on different features of threatening the immune system. Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in Google Scholar and PubMed databases to review the role of Hyssopus in immune system. The key words “Lamiaceae” , “hyssopus officinalis” , “ antibacterial ’’ , “antifungal” , “ antiviral” , “antioxidant” ,” anti-infammatory” were used to collect information. Conclusion: Among the properties of Hyssopus officinalis, antioxidant activity, antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral as well as anti-inflammatory effects were found in vitro and in vivo. So, by using hyssop and its active compounds, physicians may be able to balance the risks and benefits of complementary and alternative medicine. This plant is believed to be relatively safe at levels commonly used in foods; nevertheless, more studies are needed to determine the safety profile.
