چکیده مقاله:

This study aims to investigate the history of the Parthian Empire in various fields. The research method in the present study is descriptive analysis. The Parthian rule was a significant period in the history of Iran that lasted for nearly five centuries and may be investigated from various viewpoints. The historical proof shows that Arsacid rulers attempted to introduce themselves as inheritors of the Achaemenid kings. They used this idea to legitimize their rule over Iran and consolidate their political power. The formation of diplomatic relations between Iran and Rome at the beginning of the first century BC due to Roman expansionism to the east and the Parthians to the west led to a confrontation between Iran and Rome. The main enemy of the Parthians were the Romans. One of the tricks and methods of the Parthians to protect the borders against the Romans was the foundation of solid border buildings, defensive walls and defensive cities, which showed the boundaries of the Parthian territory. The Parthian government inherited the Achaemenid and Seleucid governments in many aspects of government and culture, espionage apparatus. The Parthians used their espionage apparatus to control trade routes, military superiority in the war against the Romans, continued trade superiority, and increased customs revenues.
