In the past three decades, the number of debates, researches, and measures to enhance sustainability has soared dramatically throughout the world. Sustainable and green projects have stemmed from humans’ concern about environmental issues, especially global warming. The construction industry has attempted to reconcile itself with this main change due to strong criticism of its devastating impacts on the environment. In spite of the global movement towards sustainability, a wide range of developing countries are still at the beginning of this way. Iran, as a developing country, confronts many challenges owing to its environmental crises, such as air pollution, drought, and so on. While Iranian people have recently faced power cuts as a consequence of water shortage in the warmest months of the year, energy consumption in this country is still much higher than the global average. In addition, rarely do we see energy-efficient solutions are utilized in the country. In this paper, applying low-E windows in the capital of Iran, Tehran, is considered as an Alternative Building Technology (ABT) to improve the energy efficiency of buildings. Since the low-E window is not commonly used in this city, there are some obstacles to apply it. By using the PESTEL analysis on the basis of experts’ opinions, first, these obstacles are identified. Then, the recommendations to remove the obstacles and develop the application are provided. At last, the significant results and effects of this usage are investigated.
