Biology of Indian Mackerel, Rastrelliger kanagurta (Cuvier,۱۸۱۷) in the Western Waters of Aceh

A study of the biology of Indian mackerel, Rastrelliger kanagurta (Cuvier, ۱۸۱۷) in the Western Waters of Aceh, Indonesia was carried out from January to December ۲۰۱۴ and a total of ۱۳۴۳ Indian mackerels were collected randomly twice a month. The allometric coefficients (b) in the present study were between ۲.۶۲۵ and ۳.۴۴۹ with coefficient of determination (R۲) values that range between ۰.۶۱۲ and ۰.۹۸۴. The condition factor (K) ranged from ۰.۹۱۷۶ - ۱.۴۵۰۹. Asymptotic length (L∞) and growth coefficient (K) and t۰ were estimated at ۲۷.۳ cm (TL) ۰.۵۶ y-۱ and - ۰.۵۲۶ y, respectively.  The sex ratio of male to female was ۱ : ۱.۰۲. Overall, the sex ratios were not different significantly (χ۲ = ۲۶.۷۵۷; df = ۱۱ ; p<۰.۰۵). The data suggest that there are two spawning seasons, the first is from January to March and the second is from August to October. The monthly mean GSI values ranged from ۰.۳۲ to ۳.۳۷. The observation of length at first maturity of female was estimated as ۱۹.۵۸ cm (TL). The fecundity of R. kanagurta varied from ۲۸,۵۴۲ to ۱۲۳,۷۶۰ with an average of ۵۶,۶۳۵ eggs.
