چکیده مقاله:

ABSTRACT The study of interactions between surface and ground water is usually essential in water resources management. This paper studies the spatio-temporal pattern of surface and ground water interactions in Zarrinerud Basin, Iran, using a coupled SWAT-MODFLOW model. For this purpose, the physically-based semi-distributed model, SWAT, is linked to a physically-based distributed finite-differenced three-dimensional groundwater simulation model, MODFLOW. The annual spatial patterns of surface and ground water interactions for the year of ۱۹۸۹ have been investigated. Out of ۱۱ sub-basins of Zarrinerud Basin, the two sub-basins which are located in the northwest of the basin, located in the Miandoab plain, have significant water exchange between surface and ground water. In the mentioned areas, the flow direction is mainly from the aquifer to stream networks. However, there are few locations where the flow direction is from the stream network to the aquifer. The other sub-basins that are located in the northeast, middle, and south of Zarrinerud Basin do not demonstrate any specific pattern of surface and ground water interaction, since usually the groundwater level is low or there is not any groundwater resource. Also, for the entire Zarrinerud Basin, the average monthly water balance in the year of ۱۹۸۹ shows high discharge rates from the aquifer to stream networks from April to June, with the highest rate of interactions in May. The results of this study can be used to identify the locations of groundwater withdrawals, nutrient transports, etc.
