COVID-۱۹ effects on sexual activity in women

BACKGROUNDIn December ۲۰۱۹, a new coronavirus was detected in Wuhan, China, and spread pandemic a month later. This created social constraints and distances by governments. It is natural that this level of limitation and change in people's lives may increase the level of anxiety, fear and depressive symptoms, and these reactions have affected various aspects of life. Sexual activities are an important part of women’s lives and related to mental health.METHODE This review study carried out by using PubMed and Google Scholar. We reviewed the effect of COVID-۱۹ on sexual activity in women. RESULTEPreventive measures such as quarantine and social distancing as well as factors such as anxiety and uncertainty about the future have negative impact on quality of life and sexual activities. The effect of stress on body function has been proved and anxiety disorder is associated with loss of sexual interest. Sexual health is ignored in critical situations. Due to existing inequalities in employment, home life and higher vulnerability of women to emotional disorders in general can be more effective in reducing women's sexual health.CONCLUSIONThe results show that sexual activity and sexual satisfaction in women decreased after COVID-۱۹ disease. Decreased female sexual function has been reported in various countries, while an increase in individual sexual activity such as masturbation and the use of sex toys has increased among women.
