The effect of six weeks of endurance training and leucine supplementation on tumor volume and Gastrocnemius muscle weight in mice with breast tumor

Introduction & Aim: Physical activity has a preventive and therapeutic effect on breast cancer and is effective in preventing muscle weakness and destruction. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of endurance training with leucine supplementation on tumor volume and Gastrocnemius muscle weight in mice with breast tumor. Methods: The present study was performed on ۳۲ female Balb/c mice for six weeks. ۱۰ days after the injection of cancer cells, the mice were randomly divided into ۴ groups of ۸: control, leucine, endurance training and leucine + training. ۱۰۰ mg of tissue was placed in a homogenizer containing lysate solution and the supernatant was measured by ELISA. After the onset of the tumor, once a week, the length and width of the tumor were measured with a digital caliper and the tumor volume was determined using the computational formula of tumor volume [V=π/۶ (w×L۲)]. Results: The Gastrocnemius muscle weight in the exercise group compared with the control group (p = ۰.۰۰۴) and leucine (p = ۰.۰۰۲) and in the exercise + leucine group compared to the control group (۰.۰۰۲). P = ۰) and leucine (p = ۰.۰۱۹) are significantly higher. Also, tumor volume in the exercise group and the exercise + leucine group was significantly lower compared to the control and leucine groups (p <۰.۰۰۱). Conclusion: Six weeks of endurance training and leucine supplementation alone and together can be a useful and adjunctive therapy along with other treatments for people with hormone-related cancers such as breast cancer.
