The effect of ۶ weeks of endurance training with leucine supplementation on serum and muscle Myostatin levels in mice with breast tumor

Introduction & Aim: Myostatin is a secretory protein that acts as a negative regulator of skeletal muscle mass. Cachexia is one of the devastating consequences associated with various types of cancer. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of six weeks of endurance training with leucine supplementation on serum and muscle myostatin levels in mice with breast tumor. Methods: The present study was performed on ۳۲ female Balb/c mice (Age=۶ to ۸ weeks) for ۶ weeks. At the beginning and ۱۰ days after injection of cancer cells, mice were divided into four groups of eight (control, leucine (۱.۳۵ g / kg body weight/day), endurance training (۲۰ to ۳۰ minutes) and endurance training + Leucine). At the beginning and end of the study, serum and muscle levels of myostatin were measured by ELISA. Results: The levels of muscle myostatin in the exercise group compared with the control group (p=۰.۰۱۲) and leucine (p=۰.۰۰۳) and also in the exercise + leucine group compared with the control group (p=۰.۰۰۴) and leucine (p=۰.۰۰۱) are significantly increased. In addition, serum myostatin levels in the exercise group compared with the control group (p=۰.۰۱۲) and leucine (p=۰.۰۰۳) and also in the exercise + leucine group compared with the control group (p=۰.۰۰۴) and Leucine (p=۰.۰۰۱) was significantly increased. Conclusion: Reducing myostatin is one of the possible ways to counteract the exercise of cachexia cancer, but leucine supplementation cannot increase the effectiveness of exercise in mice with breast cancer.
