چکیده مقاله:

Introduction & Aim: Gastric cancer is the second common cancer worldwide and the third common mortality cause in Iran. The survival of patients has been considerably increasing during last decades because of the determination of risk factors and different advancements in treatment. The aim of this study is to investigate the postoperative survival duration of gastric cancer in patients who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy and its effective pathologic and demographic characteristics. Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, ۵۶ gastric adenocarcinoma patients (stage ۲ and ۳) referred to Firoozgar hospital of Tehran were enrolled between ۲۰۱۶-۲۰۱۸. All the patients had received neoadjuvant chemotherapy before surgery and then were candidate for either total or partial gastrectomy. Necessary lymph node resection was performed during operation. Effective demographic characteristics and pathologic factors on the survival duration were studied. Results: The survival of the patients in ۴۰ day, ۴۰day to ۲year and >۲year-follow up was ۹۴.۴%, ۵۰% and ۴۴.۶%, respectively. Among considered factors, only the primary stage of the cancer significantly related to post-operative survival duration(<۰.۰۵). Other variables such as age, sex, the number of resected lymph nodes, postoperative stage of the cancer, operation type, tumor location and recurrence occurrence did not indicate significant effects(>۰.۰۵). Conclusion: This study showed a high effect of the preoperative cancer stage on survival duration. Latency in diagnosis and therapeutic limitations are related to the survival of the patients. More clinical studies are needed to detect different factors affecting patients’ survival.
