چکیده مقاله:
The combination rules, such as the ۱۰۰-۳۰ and the square root of the sum of the squares (SRSS) combination rules, are used in design codes to approximate the effects of the simultaneous application of the horizontal components of the ground motions. Such combination rules are typically used in the force-based design of structures and their use in determining the maximum displacement of structures through nonlinear time history analyses has not been studied in detail. In this research, the seismic response of a reinforced concrete (RC) bridge has been investigated using nonlinear time history analysis using ۳۲۶ earthquake records. Each earthquake record is applied to the bridge model twice, with the horizontal components of the records rotated ۹۰ degrees, resulting in a total of ۶۵۲ inelastic time history analyses. The response of the bridge columns and abutment is determined in the longitudinal and transverse directions of the bridge for each record. Also, the actual maximum response of the bridge in a random direction (i.e., the maximum radial displacement) is predicted by determining the radial displacements at each time step during analysis by post-processing the results. The adequacy of the ۳۰-۱۰۰ and SRSS combination rules for predicting the maximum bridge response has been investigated and some recommendations are provided in this regard
