Sy nthesis and Characterization of Sol-gel derived S iO۲-CaO-P۲O۵-Zn O Bioglass

Bioactive glass h as been use d extensively because of the good bioactivity, osteoconduc tivity and biodegradability [۱]. It was found tha t the bioactivity of sol-gel derived bioactive glass is better than of the melt-derived materials [۲]. A variety of sol-gel derived bio glass incorporating mo difiers such as magnesiu m, cerium, boron, stro ntium and c alcium have been reported [۳]. Zn is an essential trace element which is playin g an important role in body growth and development [۳]. The effect of ۵%mol ZnO on the chemical and physical charac teristics of bioglass is t he main subj ect of this report.
