Dyes ar e organic materials with comp lex structu res, toxic, carcinogenic, teratog enic,nonbiode gredable properties and the most i mportant pollutants of textile industrial wastewaters. In general, several methods including biol ogical and physic-chemical techno logies have been used for removing colored cont aminants fro m wastewater.The ads orption of Blue ۵۶ by barley straw was investigat ed by varying the parameters such as agitation time, concen tration, adsorbent dosage, pH and Tem perature. T he results showed that as the amoun t of the adsorbent increased, the perce ntage of dye removal increased accordingly. O ptimum pH =۲. Adsorption kinetic s was determined by pseud o first orde r and pseud o second ord er models to the experimental data. The results indicated that the pseudo second order model proving the best descriptio n of Blue ۵۶ onto barley straw the e xperimental adsorptio n equilibriu m data was analyze d by Langmuir, Freundli ch adsorptio n models. Based on c orrelation c oefficient (r۲) values, equilibrium data found fitted well to the Langmuir isotherm..
