Rotation aroun d the C۳ sy mmetry axis in ʌ-cation-ʌ sy stems

Nonco valent inter actions such as cation-ʌ are show n to play a crucial role in chemica l and biolog ical system s. The cati on-ʌ interactions are dominated by electrostatic and cation- induc ed polarizations [۱]. Th at interactio n is the stro ngest among the nonbo nded interactions; its str ength depends on the na ture of aro matic system s and the kind of the cations[۲]. Herein, alkali metal cations Li+, Na+, Be۲+ and Mg۲+ were sandwiched between be nzene (BEN) and trifluorobenzene (TFB) in eclipsed and st aggered form s (see Fig. ۱).
