Global trends in research on medicinal plants

Herbal medicine refers to using a plant's seeds, berries, roots, leaves, bark, or flowers for medicinal purposes and they have been used for medicinal purposes since ancient times. More than ۱۱۰,۰۰۰ articles on medicinal plants have been published from۱۹۶۰ to ۲۰۱۹. Ethnopharmacology and herbal medicine are the origins of many modern medicines. However, identifying promising drug candidates is a difficult task that requires the use of both traditional and advanced modern screening technologies. The most of research have been carried out in the Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmaceutics category with of the total. The first three countries to publish articles on medicinal plants in ۲۰۱۹ include China, India and Iran. Most research has been done on several plant families, including Asteraceae, Fabaceae, Lamiaceae and Apocynaceae.
