Studying the relationship between job satisfaction and spiritual health of nurses working in the selected treatment centers of Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences

Background and Objective: Job satisfaction refers to people's cognitive, emotional, and evaluative responses to their job. Spiritual health defined as the inner and satisfying feeling associated with constructive communication with oneself and others and the transcendent existence within the specific cultural framework of any society, leading to meaningful life and death. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between job satisfaction and spiritual health of nurses.Materials and Methods: In this descriptive-analytical and cross-sectional study, the statistical population was all nurses of the selected hospitals of Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences, and among them ۱۱۰ nurses were selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using Paloutzian and Ellison’s spiritual wellbeing scale (SWBS) and Minnesota job satisfaction questionnaire (MSQ) and analyzed through descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (independent data, Pearson and ANOVA) using SPSS ۲۲.Findings: Results showed that there was a direct and significant relationship between nurses' spiritual health and job satisfaction (P<۰.۰۵). Average scores of spiritual health and job satisfaction of nurses were ۸۶.۴۲ and ۴۸.۸۶ with standard deviation of ۱۸.۵۶ and ۱۴.۵۹, respectively, indicating an evaluation above the average level. There was a significant relationship between the type of employment, years of service, age and gender with job satisfaction (P <۰.۰۵).Conclusion: There was a positive and significant relationship between job satisfaction and spiritual health as the dimensions of spiritual health of nurses increased, their job satisfaction enhanced, too. Therefore, health officials should take the necessary decisions to control various factors affecting job satisfaction and also provide short-term training courses to increase the knowledge and spiritual health of employees.
