A comparison study between ۳-D static and dynamic spectrum analysis is carried out for several building configurations using the SAP۹O computer software. The comparison is carried out for maximum displacements and story shears in both principal directions of considered buildings. Results indicate that building configurations and structural systems affect greatly the results of both analyses. For framed type structures with regular features, the maximum displacements and story shears of the dynamic analysis were up to ۳۰% higher than those obtained by the equivalent static approach. Moreover, for coupled shear wall-framed systems, the ratio of dynamic/static values increases with the increase existence of shear-wall systems in the considered building. Therefore a careful interpretation of dynamic results was emphasized in order to avoid overestimation of story shears. Similarly, the increase by (۱۰-۳۰)% of values of upper story shears was recommended for regular framed typed buildings in order to account for higher modes usually ignored by the equivalent static approach
