One-pot synthesis of benzimidazoles by a heterogeneous and recyclable catalyst under solvent-free conditions

A simple and efficient methode for the synthesis of benzimidazoles via the condensation of o-phenylenediamine with benzaldehydes has been repotred. The reaction was catalyzed by natural and porous alum (ammonium aluminium sulfate, (NH۴)Al(SO۴)۲ ) nanoparticles. Some of advantages of this method are high yields of the desired product, short reaction times, the safe catalyst, prevention of using the toxic metal catalysts, readily accessible of the catalyst, low-cost heterogeneous catalyst.
