THE BASIS OF STATIC APPROACH AND THE SEISMIC DESIGN OF BUILDINGS IN IRAN

A comprehensive discussion of the basic principles of the equivalent lateral force approach recommended in seismic codes is presented. The main provisions of the.UBC code were,compared with those of the latest Iranian Code for Seismic Resistant Design of Buildings. The basic differences between the codes have been identified and their implications on the design of buildings in Iran were discussed. Guidelines were presented for improving the performAnce of such buildings based on the results of recent studies and practical experience in seismic environments.
