NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN ACTIVE CONTROL OF SEISMIC RESPONSE OF STRUCTURES

A method of active control of the structural response due to vibration using an improved pole assignment method is outlined. In this study, the locations of the poles are investigated and the method of assigning poles to achieve the desired responses has been improved. The amount of precision and calculations can be controlled by using either the Newton-Gregory or Lagrange interpolating polynomials. The Lagrange method, presented in this paper, was utilized in an approximation to calculate responses by the pole assignment method. The additional work, contained in this paper, indicated that the improved approximation provided results where the errors were negligible. The feasibility of the method is demonstrated by an example of a five story structure.
