SEISMIC RESPONSE OF MODEL CYLINDRICAL LIQUID-S۲ CRAGE TANK SCALED MODELS

The behaviour of cylindrical liquid storage tanks is examined in this paper when they are subjected to lateral loads. The dynamic characteristics of these structures are examined by subjecting small scale metal models to a variety of horizontal base motions on the Earthquake Simulator of Aristotle University. It is shown that the "uplift" phenoMenon introduces highly nonlinear variation of the displacement and strain of the tank wall. It is also demonstrated that it influences the dynamic characteristics of the model which became intensity dependent, with contributions from higher order modes
