RESPONSE OF ASYMMETRIC BUILDINGS TO RANDOM SEISMIC EXCITATION

Elastic response of torsionally coupled system to an ensemble of stationary random ground motions is obtained for a parametric investigation. The parametric study is carried out in terms of system parameters which identify the dynamic characteristics of the building. The variations of the mean peak response with the parameters are investigated under different conditions. In order to make the study a more generalized one compared to other studies, single and two component earthquakes incident at an angle with the principal directions of the building are considered. Also, both one way and two way eccentric systems are included in the study. The effect of the torsional coupling on the response of the building is investigated in terms of the system parameters so that the results could be generalized for most of the practical buildings
