EFFECT OF RANDOM AND IMPULSE LOADING ON DYNAMIC SOIL PROPERTIES, STATE-OF-THE-ART

This paper presents a summary of the results of recent research performed by the author and other investigators over the last few years dealing with the use of random landings. Random loadings are more representative of actual field conditions during earthquakes compared to sinusoidal loadings, in the testing of soils for the purpose of determining their dynamic soil properties. In addition, a new method for calculation of peak shearing strain of soils during impulse loading, is discussed in this paper. An evaluation of progress, and suggestions for possible directions for fut&e research are made.
