ESTIMATIONS OF SOME PARAMETERS OF THE SUBDUCTION PROCESS IN PRESENT-DAY EASTERN CARPATHIANS BASED ON DATA OF VRANCEA EARTHQUAKES

In the first part of the paper, the age A of the fragment of oceanic lithosphere sinking in Vrancea region and the subduction velocity V۶ of this fragment have been evaluated (A = [۱۴۰-۱۶۰).۱۰ years ; V = ۵.۷ - ۷.۰ cm/year). The second part is based on the data regarding the Vrancea earthquakes, which are compared with those data regarding the majority of seismic subduction zones of the world. From this comparison follows that the subduction zone from the present-day Eastern Carpathians region has been placed in the category of island arc-type zones (Figures ۱-۴).
