SEISMICITY AND SEISMIC RISK

The study of seismicily as a gcopliysical phenomenon has three aspecls that are dislinctly outlined by the history of this problem. One of the aspects has to do widz pure scientific interest that is, nature of earthquakes, laws or seismic wave propagation, etc. The other is of an applied characler - use of seismic waves in studying the Earth's interior and tie third one treats earthquake as a natural hazard imposing risk of people's death and loss of their properly that may lead lo economic and social upheavals in the community.The presented paper deals with seismicity scen as natural hazard and seismic risk in association with it. Issues that are of key significance, in our opinion, and only slightly or not at all illuniinated up today are considered in greater detail.
