چکیده مقاله:

In recent years, in addition to metal materials such as aluminum, various types of polymers, rubbers and plastics as energy absorbers have found many usages due to their lower weight, easier construction and lower cost. Polymeric materials are used as foam, composite structures components such as fibers reinforced polymers including both fiber and matrix. In this research, the behavior of pure polypropylene (PP) pipes in energy absorption under quasi-static loading is experimentally investigated and the results are compared with aluminum pipes of similar diameter. This material, despite the other polymeric materials such as polyethylene and PVC, has a unique behavior in order to folding process, which behaves almost similar to aluminum materials. In this study, various important parameters of energy absorption are investigated separately for each three pure polypropylene pipes with same thickness and height and different outer diameters, and two aluminum pipes with same thickness and height and different outer diameter as well. The results show that the specific energy absorption in the smaller pipe is higher than the other two pipes, while the energy absorption, peak and mean force increases as the pipe diameter is increasing. These parameters have lower value for polypropylene pipes compared to aluminum pipes.
