Research on self-healing materials: Fundamentals, fabrication,microstructural analyses and their applications

Self-healing materials are a class of intelligent materials that mimic biological systems. They are artificial or synthetically created substances and have the ability to automatically detect damage and repair their damage without human intervention. This article provides an introduction to the various concepts of "self-healing" and the history and evolution of several auto-repair systems. Various classifications of self-healing materials have been investigated. Different types of design strategies and description methods are evaluated to evaluate their recovery performance. Some potential applications, challenges and Futures Outlooks are highlighted.
