A Two Dimensional Complementary Noise Reduction System for Television Signals

This paper presents a two-dimensional twoband complementary noise reduction system for television signals. The two-band encoder processes the signal prior to transmission and the complementary two-band decoder acts on the received noisy signal. Parameters of the encoder/decoder have been optimized theoretically by using staticstics of the picture and also by subjective assessment of some typical pictures. Simulation results are presented for the noise performance of the two-dimensional system.
