The impact Of Imports on Employment in Iran’s Agriculture Sector

In the last decades, fluctuation in Iran’s Labor Market dramatically increased due to a wide range of factors. Besides, agricultural employment has a high proportion in Iran’s labor market. According to the literature on trade and employment, the Imports of Agricultural goods strengthen the ratio of job loss or displacement. In this paper, we conduct an ARDL approach to analyze the long run and short run effects of imports on employment. Using time series of data in Iran’s Agricultural sector, we find that there is a significant negative relationship between the import penetration and employment; however, the findings show that this relationship is positive between the first lag difference between the import penetration and the employment in the short run.
