چکیده مقاله:

In this study, the effect of core thickness, stainless steel wire size, and composite skin layouts on the impact strength of polyurethane foam core sandwich structures have been investigated numerically and validated by experimental results. Panels with three different layouts of steel wires on the upper skin were subjected to low-velocity impact. A Finite Element Analysis is performed using the ABAQUS/Explicit package. The polyurethane foam core was modeled using VUMAT Subroutine and Ductile Criteria was employed for the evaluation of stainless steel wires. Regarding analysis, due to the increasing of core thickness, and size of steel wires, energy absorption and peak load in the reinforced sandwich structures saw noticeable enhancement, and the penetration of the hemispherical projectile decreased slightly. Furthermore, the Unidirectional (UD) layouts were studied numerically to investigate the influence of ply angles on the impact strength of samples. Consequently, the enhancement of these geometrical parameters improves the impact resistance of panels.
