چکیده مقاله:
Background: Cardiovascular diseases are the main reason of mortality in Iran and in theworld. These diseases are rooted in the unhealthy lifestyle. This study was designed tounderstand and perceive factors that affect the preventive behaviors of people at risk ofheart disease (HD).Material and Methods: This qualitative study is a purposive content analysis. Eighteenchildren more than 18 years old of patients with the history of myocardial infarctionparticipated and were chosen with purposive sampling. Data were collected through deepand semi structure interview based on Protection Motivation Theory and were analyzedalong with their collection and with usage of Lundman and Graneheim method. Results: During content analysis process 220 codes were extracted. After reviewingseveral times and summarizing, codes were categorized based on the similarity andproportion, and finally 13 subcategories and three categories were elicited includingefforts to perform self care in order to prevent HD, Poor life style as a factor not to dopreventive HD and health continuation with positive changes in life style. Conclusions: Most participants despite being aware of the consequences of makingpositive changes in lifestyle and intending to do self-care behaviors to prevent HD,because of factors such as time constraint, high costs, laziness, impatience and prioritizingother life affairs, did not pay attention to their health. Therefore, results suggestknowledge and awareness alone cannot influence on practice and self care. Thusproviding life skills training programs can play an important role in reducing perceivedresponse cost and promoting health.
