Delamination sizing in a composite plate using 2D simulated Lamb waves

In this article, the primary aim is to estimate the delamination existence and its length in the quasi-isotropic eight ply CFRP plate through ABAQUS modeling. The interaction of Lamb wave with four different length delamination is investigated with making use of the baseline data from a healthy structure. Dispersion curve and wave structure have been obtained through the database of LAMSS_COMPOSITE software in order to choose the excited wave mode, A0 or S 0. Calculation of the amplitude reduction ratio (ARR) for filtered signals shows that which frequency has linear manner for delamination detection. Thus, A0 mode and 300kHz are selected as excited mode and frequency for further investigation. The 2D simulation results for different delamination length show that a new symmetric mode is propagated when A0 mode interact with edges of delamination. Moreover, the length of delamination could be determined by measuring the arrival time difference of excited mode and generated S0 mode. The predicted delamination sizes were found to be in good agreement with the actual delamination sizes. This proposed method for delamination sizing of the [+45/-45/0/90] s CFRP laminated plate is verified by the previous study results.
