چکیده مقاله:

One of the technologies that have a more efficient role in managing and executing drug orders and leading to drug safety is the drug management system by barcode. This study aimed to investigate nurses' readiness in teaching hospitals affiliated with Iran University of Medical Sciences to implement a drug management system using a barcode. Methods: 28 nursing managers were enrolled in the census and 283 nurses working in teaching hospitals affiliated to Iran University of Medical Sciences in 1994. To assess the readiness of the workforce, "nurses' competence and capability" and "nurses' training" were examined from the perspective of nursing managers, as well as "nurses' attitudes toward using the drug management system by barcode." Data collection tools were questionnaires and checklists. Descriptive statistical methods (frequency, mean and standard deviation) were used to analyze the Results using SPSS software. Results: On average, the readiness of nurses in hospitals was 54.3%. Hospitals were at an adequate level of readiness. Hospitals' highest readiness was related to nurses' attitudes toward using this system (76.2%). The lowest hospital readiness was related to the level of nurses' education (23.1%).Conclusion: Nurses' attitude towards the barcode drug management system was right. However, problems such as lack of training and lack of specific training programs in barcodes and drug management systems by barcode are among the shortcomings that can make the implementation of the system difficult.
