چکیده مقاله:
Iron causes several esthetical and operational problems in water industry. While ferrous iron is exposed to oxidant, is oxidized to ferric iron which is insoluble and precipitates. One method for removing these precipitates is filtration. Simultaneous sedimentation and filtration capacity of roughing filters causes that we use it for removal of something such as turbidity, suspended solids, iron and another precipitated materials before sand filtration. In this paper, effects of influent concentration on horizontal flow roughing filter (HRF) performance and its efficiency were investigated. The pilot plant was a HRF having two compartments with hoppers at the bottom of them. The grain sizes of gravel in the first and second compartment were 6.35-9.5 mm and 4-6.35 mm, respectively. The concentrations of influent which was fed to the filter after aeration were 2, 5 and 10 mg/ litre. Results showed that the efficiency of HRF was between 54-68%, 64-80% and 55-82%, respectively.
