OUT-OF-PLANE AND IN-PLANE LOADING IN BUILDING SYSTEMS WITH ROCKING-CRITICAL UNREINFORCED MASONRY PIERS

because of the mutiaxial nature of ground shaking under seismic force , walls will be subjected to simultaneous vertical in-plane and out of plane face load response. While the inplane IP response will primarily be a result of the resistance of the wall to inertia force from other parts of the structure , such as floor masses the out of plane OOP response will be due to the inertia mass of the walls themselves responding to the floor level excitation.
