The corrosion inhibition of four dithiocarbamate derivatives namely sodium dibenzylcarbamodithioate (SBC), sodium piperidine-1-carbodithioate (SPC), sodium morpholine-4-carbodithioate (SMC), and sodium diethylcarbamodithioate (SEC) were investigated for cold rolled carbon steel (CRS) in 1 M HCl by weight loss and Tafel polarization methods. Polarization studies indicated that the compounds acted as mixed type inhibitors and significantly reduced the corrosion rate of CRS due to the formation of a stable protective film on the metal surface. As confirmed by topography images of SEM and EDS chemically adsorbed SBC molecule is a better corrosion inhibitor with higher corrosion efficiency of about 94.9% at room temperature due to the presence of two benzene rings in the molecule structure.
