Effects of Vestibular Rehabilitation in Multiple Sclerosis-Related Fatigue and balance: A review

Background: One of the progressive and neurodegenerative disease that affects over 2.5 million people worldwide is multiple sclerosis (MS). (Ma˜nag et al., 2016). Fatigue is among the most common symptoms in people with MS. (Hebert et al., 2011). 86%of individuals with MS experience problem in balance (zeigelboim et al., 2008); so they have many problems in ADL. (Tramontano et al., 2018). The use of vestibular rehabilitation in MS is an approach that consists of a customized patient-based exercise program. (Tramontano et al., 2018)The aim of present review study is to analyze, through the published bibliography, efficacy of vestibular rehabilitation on the balance of MS patients with fatigue problem. Method: the search process began by adding the terms “multiple sclerosis”, “fatigue” and “vestibular rehabilitation “as the field in PubMed databases, The resulting entries were filtered by publication date, limiting it to the period between the years 2010-2020, and also by the type of document (articles and reviews).Once the search was done, a screening by relevance was carried out, obtaining the two most suitable articles from nine founds article about the study. Finding: Of the 2 selected publications, one refers to the evaluation of vestibular rehabilitation on balance, fatigue and activities of daily living, another study are based on balance exercises on people with MS, in order to check its effectiveness. The commonly used evaluation instruments are berg balance scale and they use another evaluation instruments such as thecomposite score, Fatigue Severity Scale, Barthel Index Tinetti Balance and Gait scale and etc. articles have been published in Italy during the 2013-2018 period. Articles were experimental studies. In both studies, the sample is composed of an adult population. Conclusions: After the review carried out in this study, it has been observed that after training, balance and upright postural control in people with MS improved. On the other hand, it has been seen that vestibular rehabilitation for four weeks results in less Fatigue, activities of daily living and balance in people with MS improved.
