Background: Asthma is a condition in which the airways narrow and swell and produce extra mucus. asthma can make breathing difficult and trigger coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. Cells that mediate the inflammatory response generate reactive oxygen species that, together with other respiratory tract naturally-occurring oxidant species, produce a rupture of the redox balance, generating oxidative stress. Supplementation of antioxidants may have a therapeutic effect. Several metals have been reported to be associated with asthma. Selenium is an anti-oxidant metal that may improve or protect people with asthma. This study aimed to determine the effect of selenium on prevalence of asthma.Method: this study is a systemic review of clinical trials of English articles published in PubMed, Google scholar , Cochrane and Scopus which were published up to 2019 using the key words: asthma, selenium. We found 89 articles. after analyzing ,19 studies were chosen.Findings: some articles conclusions Supplementation of selenium as an anti-oxidant, can improve signs of asthma. according to the 15 articles, selenium is associated with asthma(p<0.05).5 DUWLFOHV GLGQʼW ILQG VLJQLILFDQWO\ FRUUHODWHG EHWZHHQ VHOHQLXP DQG asthma(p>0.05).Conclusion: selenium as an anti-oxidant metal in the body, can help to improve asthma. deficiency of selenium may cause asthma and intensify the signs of asthma.
