چکیده مقاله:
Background: Patients' independence is an important issue in health care that must be respected, even if their decision leads to injury or death.Patients should be given ample opportunity before any treatment process to meditate on and digest the information provided.Method: This study is a systematic review conducted without time constraints and searches in SID, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Google Scholar databases.Findings: Informed consent is a process by which a competent patient receives all informationabout his or her illness so that he or she can participate in his or her health care choices.Reports indicate that some patients undergoing elective surgery do not receive sufficient information, information is not fully understood, or the information patients receive is not tailored to their specific needs. Conclusion: Patients' awareness of legal and ethical issues related to the consent process is limited. The 5 important points that patients should have in the informed consent form of surgery are: 1-Important side effects 2- Quality of life afterwards 3-Outcome of surgery4- Risks of not having surgery 5-Long life after surgery. In addition, nurses can play a complementary role in the informed consent process if physicians do not perform this responsibility properly.
