Efficacy of occupational therapy on quality of life and social participation in women whit breast cancer ; a systematic review

Back ground: Breast cancer is a type of cancer that affects the breast and it happens when cells grow out of control. Research by Salehiniya.H and Enayat.R shows that76% Of common cancers Women in Iran belong to the breast and more than 7000 patients are added annually.Women with breast cancer experience functional limitation of ADL and IADL and such limitations in self-care , leisure and work .One of the treatment to improve the quality of life and social participation of these patients is occupational therapy(Ot) and the purpose of this study is to investigate efficacy of OT in breast cancer. Method : In this study a systematic review of the databases google scholar , PubMed , science direct , Elsevier between 2015-2020 with the keywords "occupational therapy" ,"social participation”, “breast cancer" search is done. In this process studies that examined the occupational therapy in breast cancer were included in the study . Inclusion criteria were full text availability , interventional study and non-review articles. There was a significant difference between the article in terms of the indices study , sample number , method of implementation and so on, finally choose 6 most suitable article for this study. Finding : Patients using chemotherapy have change in concentration , working memory , attention and so on . change in these cases have negatively affect in quality of life and social participation. ot activities can improve health outcome through enhancing attention to appropriate patient communication.Conclusion : Occupational therapy activities support social participation in life through engaging patients in occupation and managing affect of cancer on activities of daily living inthese patients and can improve social participation and quality of life in these patients.
