Vision books taught in Iranian schools have never considered EFL context of synchronous mobile-assistedinstruction via WhatsApp application. However; context for CALL instruction has been provided for IranianEFL 12th grade students of Vision 3 through schools’ closure during coronavirus fight. This studyinvestigated the effect of multimedia massages via WhatsApp instruction to shed more light on the role thatthis type of instruction plays on recall of proverbs among Iranian EFL 12th grade students. To this end, 42high school students participated in the study. They were randomly assigned into two groups, functioning asthe experimental and control groups. The homogeneity of the two groups at the outset of the experiment wastestified by B2 first Cambridge English Exam. All the participants were pre-tested on proverbs of Vision 3 toshow participants’ homogeneity regarding proverbs knowledge and wisdom before the instruction. Then, theinstruction was held over a course of 5 sessions base on Vision 3 method of instruction for proverbs forexperimental group while the control group received no such treatment. Finally, the post-test on proverbswas administered on the two groups to show participants’ knowledge and recall of proverbs after theinstruction. Tests were developed based on 35 short matching and multiple choice items of proverbs ofVision 3. An independent-samples t-test was run to analyze the data. The results showed that theexperimental group could significantly outperform the control group in their post-test. Consequently,regarding recall ability, WhatsApp mediated instruction of proverbs of Vision 3 was considered to beeffective for 12th grade students.
