چکیده مقاله:

These days, air pollution is one of the crisis that threaten general health in megacities like Tehran. The main contributors to these issue are people’s reliance on private cars. This paper is an attempt to assess the effects of restricting private car to areas like Vali-Asr Street in Tehran. It is focusing on an analytical framework as the basis of investigation to enhance the defined area to support walking. Following an investigation about the background of Tehran, the physical potentials of Vali-Asr Street is assessed, which resulted in the identification of strengths and barriers of the Street to be redesigned based on urban design principles. The result of the analysis led to understanding how the existing design of the street is supportive of sustainable mobility. Although the outcomes of the study showed that the area is supportive of walking, further consideration should be taken in relation to the issues like culture and religion. The processes of analysing the existed design to redesign a developed area could be applicable considering these issues to enhance active travel choices.
